Observation of Flower Bud Differentiation and Effect of Transferring Date to Greenhouse on Growth and Flowering in Bletilla striata

Abstract

|
Floral initiation and development were examined with light microscope, and the influence of transferring date to greenhouse on growth and flowering was investigated in Bletilla striata. Flower buds were continuously formed from 30 Aug. to 15 Oct. Flower organs did not developed perfectly in flower bud formed by 30 Sep., but we could observe the petal and anther after 160 days low temperature storage at 5℃. Pseudobulbs of Bletilla striata transferred to greenhouse after natural low temperature treatment until 15 Oct. exhibited the poor shoot growth and did not flower. The transferred plants to greenhouse on and after 15 Jan. grew normally and flowered up to 90%.
